Cavern Complex - Cave Story

I've always been an avid fan of Cave Story since I first learned about the game and the little landmark it made itself within the gaming world. I've been wanting to develop a piece of artwork dedicated to Cave Story for quite some time, but I never had the motivation or had the time or had neither to be able to create this until a recently.

For this piece, I wanted to capture the overall essence of Cave Story; the main character Quote, the jetpack, the arsenal of weapons, travelling throughout what in real life would essentially have been a complex labyrinth of tunnels and rooms, with some manufactured buildings and objects throughout built by the generations of creatures and also humans who entered. This particular location is representative of The Labyrinth, in which Quote is alone for a short time in his attempt to find his way through the inner caverns.

I am aware that this event specifically is slightly inaccurate to the plot path of the actual game, but I felt the amount of activity on Quote was required given how monotone the rest of the cavern is.

EDITOR NOTES:
originally this artwork began with just Quote in the pose you see here, then I decided to push it further and surround him with one of the environments in the game, and the Labyrinth made the most sense, as it both fit thematically with the kit he has on and it's one of my favorite locations in Cave Story (particularly Cave Story 3D, which i think took an interesting but greatly more enticing approach to the level environment, although I elected to go with the original game's appearance, but kept the blue cave color palette on everything)

If you look carefully, you can see the door that leads to the trash chute where Quote first is teleported to, the Clinic, the clinic ghost, and even the crevice where Professor booster falls into, with the boulder blocking the pathway to the Core resting on the other side. the wall appears to have been greatly damaged as if many attempts to get through have been made by other parties before. and there are those sinister eyes hiding in the shadows too...
